Ryan Ray
Organization Representing:
Texas Mountaineers
Fort Worth, TX.
Ryan has been climbing for more than 17 years. He was first introduced to the sport by his father Don Ray when he was just a young boy. He grew up with multiple weekend climbing outings to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Texas and the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. After graduating high school he began to realize his love for climbing. He began to push himself harder and made it a goal to travel to many different climbing areas. He has climbed throughout Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, California, Arkansas, and Alaska.
Ryan is quickly becoming an all around accomplished climber. He enjoys the many different forms of climbing, such as: Rock, Ice, Big Wall, Aid, Rescue, and more recently is moving into Alpine Climbing and Mountaineering. Ryan credits his biggest accomplishments in climbing to his 3 day ascent of The Prow of Washington’s Column in Yosemite National Park in May of 2002, and his 29 hour ascent of the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park in July of 2004. He has participated in several different wilderness rescues and enjoys teaching others to climb safely in order to prevent future accidents.
In January of 2004 Ryan accepted the responsibility as the Oklahoma/North Texas Co-Regional Coordinator for the Access Fund as well as becoming a board member for the Wichita Mountains Climbers Coalition. It is a goal of his to help preserve the american climbing tradition as well as protect our climbing areas and resources from human impact and destruction.
Ryan not only loves to climb, but he loves being in the mountains and the outdoors. He also actively pursues backpacking, snow boarding, scuba diving, and wake boarding. Ryan’s goal in life is to not only see the world’s natural wonders, but to experience and understand them.
